Rhubarb and Local Produce

Last week I got my first really local produce of the season, rhubarb from Cha, on of the many oriental small farmers in Eastern King County. In the line of produce vendors, she had the only rhubarb and it was that great, vigorous, deep red early growth rhubarb. Needless to say, it made great jam. I think the color is mauve, strongly tart, and not bitter.

In short, shopping at the farmers market is a good thing. I’m just glad that local produce is coming back.
